Republicans - who control the House, Senate, and White House - have shut down the federal government and are forcing working families across the country to pay more for healthcare. House Democrats and I are fighting to reopen the government and protect healthcare costs for working families, including those here in CA-29.

As we work toward a solution that benefits all who live in CA-29, I want to hear from YOU.

Here's what Democrats are fighting for:

Democrats are fighting to protect working families' healthcare from Republicans' manufactured healthcare crisis.

Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), premium tax credits help lower the cost of health insurance for millions of Americans based on income and family size. Right now, Americans are getting notices that their health care premiums are about to skyrocket by a whopping 114 percent because Republicans have not extended health care tax credits. Each day of the Republican government shutdown, working class families and individuals will see even higher co-pays, premiums, deductibles, and may lose their health care altogether. Here's an average of what the new healthcare prices would look like for everyday Americans in CA-29:

  • A typical family of four making $129,800 would see their health care costs increase by $6,174 on average

  • A 60-year-old couple making $82,000 would see their health care costs increase by a whopping $13,783 on average

  • A family of four making $64,000 would see their health care costs increase by $2,143 on average

Here's a list of some items that will be affected by the Republican shutdown:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) funding

  • Commercial air travel

  • Visa processing

  • Federal housing assistance

  • IRS tax refund delays

  • Federal student loans and Pell grant processing

  • Social Security offices and processing application delays

  • Passport processing delays
