Congresswoman Rivas Welcomes State Senator Caroline Menjivar as Guest to President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29), the first Latina to represent California’s 29th Congressional District, announced that she will be accompanied by California State Senator Caroline Menjivar (SD-20) to President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress on March 4, 2025.
“Tomorrow night, President Trump will lay out his vision to the nation to rip healthcare from millions of Americans and instill fear in our immigrant communities, which is why it is important to have a fighter like Senator Caroline Menjivar in the House chamber where he will deliver his address,” said Congresswoman Rivas. “During her time as a State Senator and Chair of the Senate Health Committee, Senator Menjivar has been instrumental in advancing policies to protect and secure the health and welfare of all Californians, including immigrant communities, the LGBTQ+ community, and low-income communities. Senator Menjivar is an advocate for working families, and I am honored to welcome fellow San Fernando Valley native Senator Menjivar and her proud track record of public service to President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress.”
"It is an immense honor to be invited to the Joint Session to Congress by Congresswoman Luz Rivas, my partner in the fight to protect the people of San Fernando Valley," said California State Senator Caroline Menjivar. "As the Senate Health Chair, I am thoroughly aware of what is at stake if this callous and short-sighted federal administration moves forward with the $880B cuts, mostly to Medicaid. Nearly 40% of Californians depend on Medi-Cal for their essential health care needs, including young children, our aging parents, and people at their most vulnerable time of need. It covers long-term care, ensures individuals with developmental disabilities get services, and acts as a fiscally responsible line of defense before having to pay for emergency and more expensive services. These proposed cuts will be felt across all states regardless of affiliation, simply because the richest people in the world want to get richer. Let’s call it what it is, this is an outright robbery of the poor, working class. In the end Robin Hood was successful, and I have faith that, together with fighters like Congresswoman Rivas, we will exhaust all legislative avenues to ensure health care access in California and preserve social safety net programs.”
