Congresswoman Rivas Named to Key Natural Resources Subcommittees to Address Climate Crisis, Protect Water and Wildlife

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29) was named to the House Committee on Natural Resources’ Subcommittees on Energy and Mineral Resources, as well as Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries. These panels play key roles in addressing the climate crisis and preserving of our public lands and water, which is critical for California. 

 “The Subcommittees on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries and Energy and Mineral Resources play key roles in tackling the climate crisis, preserving our world-renowned public lands and water, and ensuring environmental justice for all communities,” said Congresswoman Luz Rivas. “My colleagues and I are ready to take on President Trump and House Republicans’ climate change-denying agenda, protect California’s iconic outdoor spaces and species, and hold the fossil fuel industry accountable to the disproportionate health and environmental effects it has caused on communities of color and low-income communities.”

Background 

The Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries is responsible for overseeing the agencies that manage much of America’s water resources, including federal water policies to addressing the effects of climate change related to drought. Additionally, the Subcommittee oversees the nation’s wildlife resources, including research, restoration, and conservation. 

The Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources oversees energy development and mining activities on public lands and federal waters. The Subcommittee is focused on accelerating renewal energy deployment, holding the fossil fuel industry accountable, investing on reclamation, and advancing climate science.
