Congresswoman Luz Rivas Votes to End Trump’s Unconstitutional War in Iran
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29), representative for California’s 29th Congressional District, released the following statement after she voted for the fourth time on a War Powers Resolution to end Trump’s unconstitutional war in Iran.
“I proudly voted with all my House Democratic Caucus colleagues to pass a War Powers Resolution that reins in Trump’s abuse of power and ends Trump’s unconstitutional war in Iran.
“Families across the San Fernando Valley want lower costs – not another forever war. Instead of working to lower costs and address the affordability crisis he created, Trump and Republicans chose to spend billions of dollars per day on a war that is wildly unpopular with the American public. Trump’s war has made the cost of living worse for working families and caused gas prices across Los Angeles County to soar to as high as $8 per gallon.
“The Constitution is clear: Donald Trump cannot enter a war without Congressional approval. House Democrats did our part to end Trump’s unconstitutional war – the Senate must do the same.”
Background:
H. Con. Res. 86, directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran, was the War Powers Resolution that passed the House on June 3 by a vote of 215-208. Congresswoman Rivas and all House Democrats voted in support of the War Powers Resolution.
Congresswoman Rivas previously voted three times for a War Powers Resolution to end Trump’s war in Iran:
March 5
April 16
May 14
