Congresswoman Luz Rivas Votes Against Republicans’ Extreme Budget Proposal
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29) released the following statement following her vote against House Republicans’ extreme budget proposal:
“The extreme budget plan House Republicans passed tonight shows us exactly where their values and priorities lie,” said Congresswoman Rivas. “In their rush to give out more tax breaks to their billionaire donors, House Republicans failed to outline plans to lower the costs of living for working families. House Republicans’ plan guts Medicaid for over 370,000 constituents in CA-29 – including over 133,000 children and 45,000 seniors. This is a cruel attack on our most vulnerable communities that will take food away from children and drive up healthcare costs for Californians.”
Background
House Republicans’ H.Con.Res. 14, establishing the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025 and setting forth the appropriate budgetary levels for fiscal years 2026 through 2034, passed the House with a vote of 217-215.
H.Con.Res. 14 will have anticipated massive cuts to safety net programs – including Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In CA-29, over 371,000 constituents, including over 133,000 children and 45,000 seniors, rely on Medicaid. Additionally, over 120,000 constituents rely on SNAP.
Congresswoman Rivas stood with House Democrats to reaffirm their commitment to protecting Americans from House Republicans’ budget proposal.
