Congresswoman Luz Rivas Selected to Key Panels on House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29), the only Latina in Congress with a background in STEM, was selected to serve on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittees on Research and Technology as well as Investigations and Oversight. These subcommittees play critical roles in developing clean energy solutions, advancing STEM education, and overseeing Artificial Intelligence (AI) issues.
“The Subcommittees on Research and Technology and Investigations and Oversight are influential in many facets of American life and is responsible in overseeing key programs and initiatives that keep the United States competitive on the world stage,” said Congresswoman Rivas. “From strengthening and diversifying the STEM workforce to ensuring the safe and responsible implementation of AI and other emerging technologies, we have an extraordinary opportunity to develop science-backed solutions that will improve the quality of life for all Americans. Background
The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology’s Subcommittee on Research and Technology has jurisdiction over all matters related to science policy and science education, including: all scientific research and engineering resources; international scientific cooperation; research policy; science scholarships; issues relating to computers and information technology; and research and development related to health and biomedical programs. The Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight has special investigative authority on all matters within the jurisdiction of the full committee.
