Congresswoman Luz Rivas Responds to Trump’s Illegal Act of War in Venezuela

LOS ANGELES — Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29) released the following statement after President Donald Trump launched an illegal and unconstitutional attack on Venezuela:

"Donald Trump’s reckless attack on Venezuela is unconstitutional and an illegal act of war.

"By circumventing Congress, Trump is putting more American and Venezuelan lives in harm’s way. Congress needs to immediately vote on a War Powers Resolution to stop Trump from abusing power.

"The American people do not want another war – and the American people deserve answers and a say on acts of war. Congress must be fully briefed on these recent actions, as well as Trump’s intentions and end goal for a long-term occupation of Venezuela.

"Our nation must not begin a new forever war."
