Congresswoman Luz Rivas: “Our nation cannot get into a new forever war.”

LOS ANGELES — Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29) released the following statement after President Trump illegally launched attacks on Iran: 

"In the dead of night, Donald Trump conducted an unauthorized attack on Iran that will surely bring about instability across the region.

"Donald Trump has neglected to make the case for these attacks in front of Congress and the American people. The Constitution is clear: the President cannot enter into a war without approval from Congress – he is not above the law. 

"The United States must not enter another costly, indefinite conflict without fully understanding the risks to our servicemembers and allies in the region. The American people deserve answers and accountability.

"And let’s not forget this: Donald Trump is starting a war to deflect from his and his Administration’s refusal to address the real issues that are impacting the American people, including the affordability crisis, releasing all the Epstein Files, and reigning in an out-of-control ICE.

"Congress must come back into session immediately to vote on a War Powers Resolution to stop Trump from abusing his power and putting servicemembers’ lives at risk. 

"Our nation cannot get into a new forever war."
