WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Luz Rivas (CA-29) released the following statement after Republicans refused to return to Washington to keep the government open and protect healthcare for millions of Americans:

“Donald Trump and Republicans would rather shut down the government than do anything to address the rising costs of healthcare. Republicans could not even be bothered to come back to Washington to do their jobs and address the financial hardships working families are facing because they have manufactured a healthcare crisis. Republicans own this shutdown and the pain and hardship it will cause for millions of Americans.

“My offices in Washington, D.C. and Arleta will remain open for constituents during the Republican shutdown, and I will continue fighting to protect the nearly 60,000 constituents in CA-29 from Republicans’ cruel, billionaire-first agenda that has done nothing but make their healthcare more expensive.”
